22 March 2021
It is with much sadness, and after significant tossing of thoughts and feelings, that I have decided to resign from the position as Lead Mental Health Commissioner for South Australia.
My decision comes in the context of the recent increase in my mental health carer responsibilities. I’m sure that many family carers can relate to this circumstance and the often hard decision involved.
Please know that I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Commissioner role and that this decision has been a very hard one for me to make. I am deeply grateful to have met so many dedicated people over the past 15 months, and I’ll miss them greatly. I am confident that my fellow Commissioners, Heather Nowak and David Kelly, will continue to strengthen their presence in the role and do great things with, and for, the community.
My intention is to continue undertaking my Flinders University research role part-time, and local and national consumer/carer advocacy with Lived Experience Australia. I certainly intend to continue in adding my voice alongside others in the community who are also committed to improving mental health in South Australia.
Yours sincerely,
Professor Sharon Lawn
Mental Health Commissioner – SA
